I’m surrounded by family talent. My bedroom is so tranquil. I wake up every day and go to sleep every night looking at these trees. The two pieces on the left are my mother’s. The small piece on the lower right is my Aunt Dee’s art and the other two are mine. Their work appears to be created effortlessly. For me, I struggle at times but I know the genes are bound to take me somewhere.
Although the two sisters were gifted from the start they never pursued art careers. Family came first. It wasn’t popular for women to get much press back in the day. Artwork, knitting and crafty things were thought of only as a hobby. The only social networks were their bridge club or church. Their wish might have been the same as mine but I don’t recall either of them talking about it in such a way. For me, I’m always kicking myself thinking I’m not good enough. I’ve got to remember when I see that their small collection of paintings that their great talent would have made the big time if they only applied themselves.
I know I have a bit of talent so I’m on a mission to paint and paint and paint some more. During the process, you will see my attempts. I will market and I will paint and paint and paint some more. then….start the marketing process all over again. Lucky for me, my son…. is a marketing strategist for artists. If I don’t make it due to his diligence, it’s my fault.
It’s time for me to make a difference in my world. How about you?
Eve seems to be contemplating, doesn’t she? When I began painting this nude, I did not have Eve on my mind. After viewing her body image and emotion captured, I decided to add the apple. It certainly made it more interesting. My work is so odd, I think. The figures and portraits are far from perfect. Unique is the only word I can come up with. My features are exaggerated with the big lips and long necks. Most of the women turn out this way. I like to paint as I go. If I took the time to do a pencil sketch, the proportions might be more accurate. I’m showing a detailed portrait by Cesar Santos. Only in my dreams would I be able to paint like this in my lifetime.
If I’m lucky, I might get close to Matisse or Modigliani.
Or, I’ll just keep working until someone says, “Your style is so unusual. I’d love to buy it!
It could be a good thing that I create my own style or I might not make a dent in the world. Only time will tell.
And you thought Elvis Presley has moved on to a different world. Remember all the rumors about him being still alive? Those stories went on for years and I would bet there are some folks who want to believe it or they do believe it. How could you not love Elvis? Many young girls had a poster of Elvis on her bedroom wall, except for me. My catholic father wouldn’t have such a thing.
Sorry Dad, I was not trying to get back at you when I decided to do this life-size replica of animated Elvis. I was in the middle of creating a series of musicians on silk. Elvis just happened to be COOL of Cool so I thought, why not? It requires seven steps to produce a silk painting but it is worth every moment of labor. It is similar to water-color but there is no forgiveness of the craft. It takes guts to begin a large piece. You are either going to ruin your very expensive silk or you will be delighted at the development once it has been steamed and hung dry.
The question is, where shall Elvis go now? I was thinking of finding a home at the Hard Rock Cafe or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Possibly, you might know of someone who is a major Elvis collector. There must be some places in Beverly Hills that would find a home for him.
Going on vacation? Would you love to have a special memory to bring home with you?
This sarong was completed for a bride for her honeymoon in St. John. The groom wanted to keep in original packaging I sent…
Here is what he said about it:
“Great, thanks Michele! So I couldn’t resist any longer and opened it up last night so I could see it. It is absolutely gorgeous! It really even exceeded my expectations by a long shot and I’m ecstatic about it! I really can’t wait for her to open it! I think I’m going to give it to her when we get to our villa on St. John next Monday evening. Like I said, I will definitely take some nice pictures of it on her to share with you. Thanks again!
After the wedding:
The wedding and honeymoon were fantastic! We had great weather and just had a blast on the honeymoon. The Virgin Islands were beautiful! And I have to say that Kelly absolutely loved her sarong! I gave it to her the first night of the honeymoon and she was completely blown away. I have a few pictures that I am attaching. She wore it to Honeymoon Beach on St. John for the beach pictures and she also wore it around the villa. On this trip she only wore it around her waist and it looked amazing on her. She plans to wear it as a dress soon, but wasn’t able to during the vacation because she didn’t have the appropriate clothing with her to wear underneath. But to say the least we are very thankful for the wonderful job you did as it looks just gorgeous on her and is such a one of a kind piece of wearable art!
Custom work is a thrill for me as I love getting in to the hearts of the people who are ordering the surprise. What I do first is speak with them in length about their vision for the fabric. I send a thumbnail sketch or
two like you see above to see if I’m on the right track. I mail the sketch to them and get approval on colors, design and additional feedback. Once they’ve approved, I go to work to finalize the rest.
The final is then completed and packaged up to go. It’s that simple….well, not quite…I do alot of work to make it a gift everyone will love.
This is a re-blog of my own but thought it was appropriate considering wedding season in here. If you know of someone who wants something other than white for their special day, please pass it along and if I get a job from it…I’ll send you a treat!
This is what my happy customer said about receiving her order today:
I received the scarf and shawl today. Thank you very much for yet another wonderful creation and unique summer piece.
I loved the beaded straps. They are beautiful and I think will be very helpful to keep the shawl on my shoulders.
